I am a self taught artist living on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia. I am a pet portrait artist and I have been painting for a very long time. When I came across this form of artwork one day while googling for art supplies I was fascinated by it and knew I just had to give it a try. There has been a lot of blood, sweat and tears along the way (okay no blood) and I am still learning more with each piece. I hope you enjoy my artwork as much as I enjoy creating it.
My 3D resin artwork is created through a process of painting on layers of resin to produce artwork with the perception of depth and realism. A layer of resin is poured into a container (bowls, boxes, seashells). When the resin has dried (24hrs later) I use acrylic paint to create a portion of the fish. Another layer is added and left to dry and a little more of the fish is painted. This process is repeated, layer after layer, to gradually bring the creatures to life and create the 3D illusion.
The number of layers in each piece varies depending on the size of the work, with the minimum being 8 layers. The artwork on my home page is 45 layers and took 3 months to complete.
he only objects in my artwork that are not painted are the rocks, coins or shells. The fish and plants are totally made up of layers of paint - I have not used plastic, paper, cardboard or any other material (and especially not real fish) to create this artwork. I have used clay on the body and shell of my other creatures such as the turtle and octopus if they need to be out of the 'water'.
